AC Hotel Officially Opens

The much anticipated AC Hotel at 630 N. Rush St. in downtown Chicago, has opened. The new property is the first hotel in Illinois for the Marriott-branded, Spain-based AC Hotel chain.

HPA served as the architect of record on both the interior and exterior renovation of the property, previously branded as a Sheraton Four Points hotel. In describing the team’s approach to the exterior renovation, HPA Associate Stephen Marcus says, “We utilized new exterior lighting and a linear metal screen just above the lower cornice to help streamline the exterior appearance of the building and bring it in line with the signature aesthetics of the AC Hotel brand.”

The Gettys Group created the renovated interiors, which are meant to appeal to millennial travelers. Gettys’ design delivers the sleek, sophisticated European inspired aesthetics that are the trademark of the hotel brand.

The property officially opened on May 29, 2015. The hotel is managed by Milwaukee-based Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
