The official groundbreaking took place today for the $100 million redevelopment of 2116 Chestnut Street in the Rittenhouse Square District of Philadelphia. Mayor Michael A. Nutter was joined by representatives from the John Buck Company, Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture and Hunter Roberts Construction Group to celebrate the start of construction of a new Class A, 34-story high-rise. The mixed-use tower will include 319 upscale apartment units with state-of-the-art amenities, enclosed parking and retail space. A new five-story medical center will be built adjacent to 2116 Chestnut to replace the Sidney Hillman Medical Center that previously operated on the site. The project is set to open in mid-2013.
